The secret to enhancing color – color-depositing shampoo
Before explaining how to use color-depositing shampoo, it’s important to understand what it is. Color-depositing shampoo is a key part of post-bleach hair care. These shampoos contain artificial pigments to "replenish color," which helps to maintain the vibrancy of dyed hair by replacing pigments lost through washing and sun exposure. As Anson explains, bleached hair has had its natural melanin removed, making it easier to color and enhancing the intensity of any shade. However, bleached hair also fades more easily. Using a color-depositing shampoo can extend the time between salon visits, as the color continues to develop with each wash, adding depth and saturation to the hair color over time.
Anson’s tips on how to use color-depositing shampoo
Color-depositing shampoo works particularly well on hair that has faded significantly, producing more noticeable results. Today, Anson selected a model with bleached hair that has faded to a nearly golden blonde to demonstrate the effects of color-depositing shampoo. For this model, Anson mixed Milk Tea and Pink Lady shades to create a customized color blend. He explained, “The model has a fair complexion, so this color blend enhances her skin tone, making it look brighter and more radiant.”
Step-by-step guide to using color-depositing shampoo
MCG’s color-depositing shampoo uses natural plant-based thickeners, which help to avoid issues with uneven application.
If you need to cleanse an oily scalp, use your regular shampoo first and then apply the color-depositing shampoo for the second wash. Regular shampoos are alkaline, which opens the cuticles for effective cleaning but also removes pigment. In contrast, color-depositing shampoos are mildly acidic, preventing excessive cuticle opening and better retaining color, though their cleaning power is lower. Therefore, it’s best to wash twice. Anson emphasizes that lathering should be avoided with color-depositing shampoo—leave it on for 3-5 minutes before washing as usual. Lathering can dilute the pigment, reducing color intensity. For those with bleached hair who wonder, “Can I use color-depositing shampoo daily?” Anson suggests using it 2-3 times a week and alternating with regular shampoo, with a touch-up every two months at the salon.
Embrace the boldness of color play – What is color mixing?
In addition to using color-depositing shampoo with a single color, you can also mix it with other shades for unique color effects. For example, mixing a toning shampoo with a color-depositing shampoo matching your current hair color can create a misty effect, allowing you to experiment with different tones at home and become your own color expert. For this demonstration, Anson mixed Milk Tea and Pink Lady to create a trendy pink-brown shade for the autumn and winter season. By adjusting the color ratios, you can achieve different shades. Similar to dyeing, you can use complementary or offset colors to enhance or neutralize certain tones. According to Anson, MCG’s color-depositing shampoos have a lighter, more liquid texture compared to other brands, making them easier for consumers to apply and blend at home, offering plenty of creative freedom.
How to choose the right hair color? Here’s what the professionals recommend!
According to popular hair color trends for women in Taiwan, Anson notes that for colors requiring bleaching, deep, smoky gray tones with a hint of ash are extremely popular. For non-bleached colors, the pink-brown shade created today with color-depositing shampoo tops the list as a favorite. If you’re considering a change but unsure which color would suit you best, Anson suggests choosing based on skin tone and personal style. For deeper skin tones, he recommends misty gray shades to add a touch of sophistication. For fairer skin tones, blue hues or pink-brown shades can enhance the complexion, making the skin look brighter and more radiant.
