Rebecca, the salon’s owner, recalls the moment she decided to start her business with a smile: "I felt there weren’t any salons in Douliu that matched my taste, and the business philosophies of other salon owners often didn’t align with mine. So, I decided to open my own salon and no longer work for others." This pursuit of beauty and recognition of her own value drove Rebecca to establish a haven of French-inspired elegance in Yunlin’s relatively untapped hairdressing market, carving out her own unique space on the streets of Douliu.

Unlike many salon owners who choose locations in Taiwan's six major cities, Rebecca went against the grain by establishing her market in Douliu. She explains: "Yunlin is still relatively undeveloped, so the competition is less intense. By operating a high-quality salon here, the clients who can appreciate it will remain loyal." Rebecca’s previous experience working at a salon in Douliu also influenced her decision. Opening her first salon in the same area ensured her existing clients could easily find her, making the transition seamless for them.

Each stylist specializes in their own area of expertise, which allows the salon to maintain a high standard of service. Despite being priced higher than most local salons, Chic Salon’s focus on quality and exceptional service has earned the trust and loyalty of its clients.

Since its establishment in 2023, Chic Salon has not faced significant challenges in attracting clients. Thanks to Rebecca's extensive experience working at other salons, she had already built a strong base of loyal customers who supported her from the very beginning. However, leading her team presented a different challenge. Rebecca explains: "At Chic, designers don’t need to clock in; they have a lot of freedom. But with freedom comes the expectation of self-discipline. I want the stylists who work here to have more time for themselves, rather than feeling bound by their work."

When a leader guides the way, the flock knows where to go. At Chic Salon, Rebecca plays the role of the leader, offering a clear direction for her team. She shares her unique perspective on management: "It’s important for employees to feel a sense of admiration for their leader. As a boss, I make sure my own performance never falters, so I can also expect my team to continually improve." Leading by example gives her credibility, and her team naturally follows suit. Rebecca believes that the relationship between the salon and its stylists should be mutually empowering: "I hope that the stylists who come here can transcend their environment and grow into better versions of themselves."
