Tucked away in a small alley near Taichung’s National Museum of Natural Science, there’s a multipurpose beauty and styling salon where customers often say, "If you want great hair, I recommend Xiao Ke." For nearly a decade, EDM Hair Club has built its reputation not only on professional hairdressing skills but also by offering services like nail art, eyelash extensions, and semi-permanent makeup. Most importantly, its commitment to excellence and the craft of serving clients with care has earned EDM high praise in Taichung’s highly competitive beauty industry.

The journey of EDM’s establishment
When it comes to why EDM operates as a multipurpose beauty and styling salon, it all traces back to the influence of its owner, Xiao Ke's former mentor in hairdressing. Xiao Ke recalls: "At the salon where I used to work, there was a teacher who specialized in bridal makeup and trained hairstyling teams. He once told me, 'When you’re working alone as a hairstylist, you need to create more value by offering additional services for your clients to experience.'" This advice shaped Xiao Ke's mindset, instilling the importance of thinking about how to do more, even as an individual. When Xiao Ke eventually started her own business, this philosophy carried over, leading her to invite familiar beauty professionals to join the EDM team, creating a comprehensive beauty and hair salon.
At EDM, beauty from head to toe
Reflecting on the journey from being an employee to starting her own business, Xiao Ke shares that the greatest challenge in establishing EDM has been managing personnel. Having built a strong foundation at previous salons, Xiao Ke already had a loyal clientele, many of whom followed her to EDM. As a result, securing customers wasn’t a major concern in the early days of her business. However, as new team members joined, Xiao Ke realized that running a salon wasn’t as straightforward as she had imagined. Navigating relationships with partners and managing personnel became the most significant lessons in her entrepreneurial journey.

In the early days of her business, Xiao Ke frequently attended management training courses and exchanged experiences with other entrepreneurs, adjusting her mindset along the way. As a result, communication challenges with her team did not overwhelm EDM. Instead, she leveraged each team member’s expertise to provide exceptional service to clients, implementing a strict appointment-only system to control daily workloads and reduce friction among stylists. By fully utilizing the advantages of a multipurpose beauty and styling salon, she created more value to meet her clients' beauty needs.
Xiao Ke shares: "I often tell my clients that I love teamwork. While I manage appointments individually, my goal is for clients to leave beautiful from head to toe. We have a second floor offering beauty, nail, and eyelash services. We take care of everything so that when you want to feel gorgeous, you only need to think of EDM."
Social contributions that inspire more
With a philosophy of "giving back to society," Xiao Ke has embraced her role as a salon owner to extend support to those in need. For Xiao Ke, stepping out and observing the world is the only way to truly identify those who require help. From the early days of her entrepreneurial journey to now, she has consistently upheld her commitment to offering free haircut services every month as a way of giving back.
EDM continues to provide free haircut services at Nantou special schools
Xiao Ke recalls a memorable moment from one of her free haircut sessions: "After finishing a haircut for a little girl, I asked the teacher why there was a urine smell. The teacher explained that her grandfather hadn’t bathed her. These children usually come to school during the day but return home afterward to their families, and some, due to their parents’ busy schedules, don’t receive adequate care. While these children may not have a strong awareness of beauty, I believe they also enjoy being clean and looking nice." She shared that the school highly respects the children, providing the stylists with notes detailing the parents' desired hairstyles for their kids. "Just because these children have certain limitations doesn’t mean they should be treated carelessly," Xiao Ke emphasized.
Through these free haircut sessions, Xiao Ke believes it’s an opportunity for stylists to reflect on how to better respect their clients' wishes. "This is what moves me the most—no one should ever be treated carelessly."
In addition to the EDM team, other hair professionals also join in these free haircut initiatives.
Buildng a business with warmth
Infusing warmth into professional techniques has been Xiao Ke’s unwavering mission since the inception of her business. The greatest strength of EDM lies in its ability to balance technical expertise with heartfelt care and enthusiasm. Xiao Ke shares: "Our uniqueness is having 'professionalism with warmth.' I love doing things that carry warmth. Clients can feel the passion in your work and enjoy positive interactions. I firmly believe that professionalism with warmth is the best approach."
Xiao Ke reflects on EDM’s ten years of hard work in Taichung’s highly competitive hairdressing industry, considering it a significant success and a testament to earning clients’ trust. She often encourages her team, saying: "Our street is called Boguan 2nd Street. We don’t need to be the best salon in all of Taichung, but we must be the best on Boguan 2nd Street. When people talk about us, they should immediately think of EDM, and I believe we’ve achieved that."
With this mindset, Xiao Ke firmly believes that as long as EDM continues to infuse warmth into its professional techniques—both in its work and client interactions—it will achieve perfection in every aspect.

Salon specialty technique: Physical hair volumizing
EDM offers a specialized service called Japanese Physical Hair Volumizing, designed for clients with visible hairlines or thinning hair. This technique involves attaching extensions to existing hair follicles, with 2–4 strands of synthetic hair applied to each follicle. However, if a follicle is not strong enough to support the weight of the extensions, the procedure will not be performed to ensure the client’s hair health and the quality of the results.
Xiao Ke shares that she initially learned Physical Hair Volumizing because of client demand. "I think it’s great that I picked it up, as many clients have these concerns and are willing to give it a try," she explains. Hair texture, density, and flow are unique to each individual, and some people are born with challenges related to hair flow. The Japanese Physical Hair Volumizing technique helps create the appearance of fuller hair flow, making it especially suitable for women experiencing postpartum hair loss. This solution offers them a way to regain confidence in their hair’s appearance.
