DAYs Hair Salon is a localized brand created by a group of passionate Keelung youths, dedicated to their vision of "becoming the warmest hair salon." Their brand philosophy is reflected in every detail, from the salon's decor to the unique tones of their stylists' social media portfolios. Unlike the minimalist and bright Korean-inspired aesthetic that's currently trending, DAYs stands out with its bold and distinctive character, which initially gave me the impression of a distant and niche salon. However, visiting in person revealed a completely different experience—one that was far more approachable and welcoming than the cool tones might suggest.

With a blend of diverse styles and multicultural influences, DAYs takes an all-encompassing approach to hairstyling. In Keelung, whether you're looking for a haircut, vibrant hair coloring, Korean-style men's perms, or even African dreadlocks, DAYs has it all. Salon owner Yunxi envisions a space where, "When a client walks in, no matter what style they want, we can assign a specialized stylist to cater to their needs."

With the rapid advancement of internet technology and the prevalence of fast fashion, running a beauty business without distinctive features that leave a lasting impression can lead to obsolescence. In today's world, countless people manage social media, but simply following the crowd and doing the same thing lacks individuality. At DAYs, you won’t find a standardized style. For creative professionals like hairstylists, sticking to a single style for too long can lead to burnout. Salon owner Yunxi emphasizes the importance of individuality: "Every stylist’s personality matters. Be the version of yourself that you love, because for a stylist, showcasing your personality is the best business card you can offer."

The DAYs team has an interesting dynamic, with many stylists having connections that trace back to their middle school days, often as classmates or juniors and seniors. These bonds, once formed, proved enduring. When owner Yunxi decided to leave her previous salon and create her own brand, she brought along those she had known since middle school and who had worked alongside her in the beauty industry. This has created a unique atmosphere at DAYs. One of the stylists, XUAN, shares, "Maybe it’s because we’ve all known each other for so long, but DAYs feels very safe, like a family. After all, we spend more time here than at home."

Working at a salon means not only representing yourself and your personal brand but also carrying the name of the salon as a whole. Yunxi views the team as a shared life entity, explaining that "growing together" is how she sees her relationship with her partners. While performance-based work inevitably brings competition, Yunxi believes that healthy competition drives explosive personal growth. With kindness as a guiding principle, she strives to lead the team toward building better lives—a vision reflected in the salon’s name. From the moment she learned to wash hair in her early days in the industry, Yunxi had already laid the foundation for her dream of building her own brand. "I want to create a happy brand. Beyond professional growth, I hope that when material and monetary concerns are set aside, everyone here can still find spiritual fulfillment. That’s what makes a job truly great," Yunxi says.

Many people leave their hometowns to work in bigger cities, especially those from areas surrounding the Greater Taipei region. However, Yunxi and the team chose not to pursue their careers in a metropolis but instead rooted their business in the town where they grew up. Compared to salons in Taiwan’s six major cities, Keelung is predominantly made up of locals. To successfully build a local brand here, you must truly love the city. Yunxi believes, "For a local brand to last, beyond enjoying what you do, it’s the sense of belonging and security that this city gives you that makes it possible." These words reflect Yunxi's deep love for Keelung. This sense of connection to her hometown is also a key driver behind their determination to build a strong brand.
